美國專利局於2026年7月6日宣布，將喬治亞州與阿拉巴馬州作為東南區的社區參與辦公室延伸創新合作夥伴，並且重點關注傳統黑人大學 (Historically Black College and University, HBCU) 以及少數族裔服務機構 (Minority-Serving Institution, MSI)。

自從宣布在蒙大拿州及猶他州成立社區參與辦公室之後，美國專利局重新構思其與大學之間的合作，以建立能夠更靈活的與當地創新者會面的模式，促進商業化、製造以及市場應用。
