澳洲為了協助保護原住民智慧財產權，於2024年11月成立原住民知識小組 (Indigenous Knowledge Panel, IK Panel)。根據IK Panel於2026年發行的首份公報，IK Panel在2025-2026年間的四大工作目標為：
1.    建立與IK有關的政策。
2.    參與專利申請案的評估。
3.    提供立法相關建言。
4.    推廣IK保護意識。
　　
由於IK Panel成立的主要目的是建立與原住民知識相關的智慧財產權系統，因此官方另外成立原住民文化與智慧財產權 (Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property, ICIP) 工作小組，以協助在保護原住民 (First Nations) 傳統知識和文化表達形式的獨立法規立法中提供建議。除此之外，澳洲專利局亦透過世界智慧財產權組織 (World Intellectual Property Organization, WIPO) 的智慧財產權與遺傳資源、傳統知識及民間文學藝術跨政府委員會 (IGC) 將原住民的權益保護推升至國際層次。
